Agricultural Entrepreneur Doubles Farm Output with Leased Equipment

Challenge

GreenFields Agri-Ventures, a 200-acre farm in Nakuru County, relied entirely on manual labour and rented equipment during peak seasons. This limited their planting and harvesting capacity, leading to crop losses of up to 30% annually. The cost of purchasing a tractor, combine harvester, and irrigation system exceeded KES 15 million.

Solution

A finance lease package from an agricultural equipment leasing company provided the full suite of machinery with a 15% deposit and structured quarterly payments aligned to harvest cycles. The lease term of 4 years included an option to purchase the equipment at residual value, giving the farm a clear path to ownership.

Results

Crop yields doubled in the first full growing season, and post-harvest losses dropped from 30% to under 5%. Annual revenue grew from KES 8 million to KES 19 million. The farm has since expanded to 350 acres and employs 40 seasonal workers, up from 15.
